Longtime community volunteers, Harry Selvin and Susan Holt were named the King and Queen of the 17th Annual Mardi Gras Ball. The Community Conscience “Under One Roof” sponsored event took place at the Westlake Hyatt Hotel on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
Harry Selvin moved to the Conejo Valley in 1990, and is the leader of the Harry Selvin Big Band. He has actively and aggressively supported Community Conscience over the years, and many of the non-profit organizations in the “Under One Roof” building. Selvin and his late wife Gerelda, were among several major multi-year pledgees for the "Raise the Roof Campaign" which added significant square footage to the “Under One Roof” building in the 1990's. The Senior Concerns' Thrift Shop Bargain Boutique carries a plaque which honors the names of "Gerelda and Harry Selvin" as a tribute to their generosity. Living in Westlake with wife Maureen, Selvin is a member of T.O. Rotary Club and is a past president of the club.
He has been on the Board of Senior Concerns (five years), Hospice of the Conejo, Many Mansions (formerly in the “Under One Roof” building), the Wellness Center, the Jewish Federation, the City of Hope, the Heart Association, the Polio Foundation, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts, among others. He was voted "2003 Man of the Year" by the local Chamber of Commerce for his many contributions to the community. He has also been on the Theater Board of Governors for the T.O. Civic Arts Plaza's Kavli and Scherer Theaters as well as a member of the Alliance for the Arts.
Susan Holt has been a 14-year member of the Community Conscience board. She was President for two years, including during the "Raise the Roof Campaign." She has also served on the Conejo Historical Society board for eight years and is currently on the group’s Executive Board. She is presently serving her fourth term as an elected official for the Conejo Park and Recreation Board. She was Executive Director of the Oakleaf Music Festival for eight years and was a founding member of “STARS,” serving as its founding president.
She lives in Thousand Oaks with her husband Ed.
