Catholic Charities coordinates efforts to help Maryanne

by cceditor on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 9:51 PM
Maryanne, a senior citizen, was living in San Diego on a very limited income. Her daughter convinced her to relocate to the Thousand Oaks area where they would be able to live together. Until they can pay the moving costs, the moving company is keeping their furniture. Now they have nothing. In need of some assistance, they came to Catholic Charities. Catholic Charities made phone calls to get them some furniture, and also provided them with food vouchers and a voucher to Senior Concerns Bargain Boutique for clothing.

Catholic Charities also made phone calls in order to obtain more affordable housing for Maryanne after her daughter moved out leaving her with no money to pay rent and utility bills. Seven months later Maryanne called to inform us that she had obtained low income housing in the Santa Paula area through assistance from LSS Community Care Centers.

Client Success Story: Tye Horn

Tye Horn is meeting with his Villa Esperanza Services Independent Living Skills Instructor/Job Coach, Dan. Along with Tye, is his eleven year old son Troy, they have just returned from their Friday morning breakfast ritual which all three seem to relish. Apparently, Tye is a popular regular at their favorite spot. He is an exceptional client who has taken on full responsibility as a single dad and held down a job at Home Depot for 18 years. Villa Esperanza Services supports his efforts both at home through Independent Living Services (ILS) and at work through the Employment Services Individual Placement program.

President's Message - Ken Humphrey

by cceditor on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 5:10 PM

I’ve had a very difficult time writing the President’s Message for this newsletter. There are so many fantastic things to highlight when writing about Community Conscience and the wonderful organizations housed “Under One Roof.” Some of those items are touched on in other portions of this newsletter, so please, read the entire newsletter. However, as President, I would be remiss if I did not tell our friends and supporters about some of the difficulties Community Conscience faces as well.
